Who We Are

Firefly & Fernis an independent book discovery platform for children ages 0–18. We are not affiliated with any publisher or retailer. Our mission is to help families find great books.

Information We Collect

We keep data collection to a minimum. Here is what we may collect and why:

Newsletter subscriptions. If you sign up for The Reading Lantern, we store your email address to send you book recommendations and updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

Book recommendation requests.When you use Fern Picks, we process the information you enter (child's age, interests, reading level) to generate recommendations. This data is not stored permanently and is not linked to any account.

Basic analytics. We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how visitors use the site (page views, popular searches). We do not use invasive tracking, fingerprinting, or sell data to advertisers.

Affiliate Links

Firefly & Fernearns a small commission when you purchase books through our affiliate links (Amazon, Bookshop.org, and others). Clicking an affiliate link takes you to the retailer's site, where their own privacy policy applies. We track clicks to measure performance but do not receive personal purchase details.

Children's Privacy

Firefly & Fernis designed for parents and caregivers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The recommendation tool asks about a child's reading preferences (age, interests) but this is entered by a parent or guardian and is not stored.

Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate Firefly & Fern: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database), Resend (email delivery), and Anthropic (Fern recommendations). Each processes data according to their own privacy policies. We do not sell or share your personal data with advertisers.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies required for the site to function (session management). We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Your Rights

You can request deletion of your data (newsletter email) at any time by contacting us at hello@fireflyandfernreads.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Changes

We may update this policy as Firefly & Fern grows. Material changes will be communicated via the newsletter or a notice on the site.
